Here are three quick and easy steps for wearing colour with confidence for lipstick virgins.

Before your start, ensure your lips are chap-free — flaky lips are never a good look. Followed this up with a lip moisturiser.

Step one: line the lips The first step to effervescent colourful lips is to line the lips with a shade that matches your natural lip colour. This will assist in long-lasting colour and ensure the lipstick doesn't feather or bleed.

Step two: lipstick application Reds and dark wintery browns and cherry hues are the hardest to perfect. Never apply the lipstick directly onto your lips, we recommend always using a lip brush. Stay in between your lined lips and slowly build up the desired shade. If you go a little overboard with the application, never fear. Simply blot with a tissue. For a matte finish, dust over a hint of translucent powder. This will also assist in a long-lasting colourful pucker.

Step three: cleaning up Finally if you overstepped the line, clean up the misshaped edges with a cotton tip, followed by a touch-up with concealer, and woo-lah, you'll have perfect coloured lips.
