Drug prescriptions hit record high

Kiwis took a record 40.3 million prescriptions for subsidised medicines to pharmacies last year.

Health Minister Tony Ryall says government spending on drug subsidies increased by $180 million over the last three years.

"The additional funding has not only resulted in more people having access to currently subsidised medications, 67 new medications are now also available," he said on Friday.
