Question
I've realized that summer is just around the corner, do you have any good exercise ideas for getting into shape quickly?

Answer
As your trainer I'd need to know a few things before I can really answer your question – how fast do you need to get into shape, what do you define as 'in shape' and how 'out of shape' are you? All that said the most effective way to get in shape is to start an organized or structured short term fitness programme.

The key to successful weight loss is a combination of a healthy diet and regular exercise. Frequency and intensity of exercise have a huge impact on your likelihood of success. A lot of clubs use these types of programmes to jumpstart people into exercise during the year. Once you've finished your 5 or 6 week programme you'll have a much more realistic understanding on what you need, and want to do to continue staying in shape. You'll be able to talk to your trainer about all of the other options available at that point. You may decide to do another team training programme with the group, you might think about checking back in with your trainer from time to time, join a sports club or go solo.

The choice is yours. I'd like to stress that while a 6 week programme can give you some great results you'll have put all that time, effort and money to waste if you don't continue to stay in shape afterwards. Don’t look at the programme as the fix, but as the first step in your new lifestyle. You'll be able to shed some excess fat and change your body shape more quickly in the earlier stages of your training butt here are no short term fixes for a long term solution.

While we can get you on your way very quickly you'll need to be consistent and put in the work to stay healthy. Of course the upside of being more healthy has a positive effect on every facet of your life so it's well worth the effort. Over time you'll see exercise not so much as a burden but as an enjoyable part of your life.
