Turn back time with the latest news on longevity.

  1. Dig out those running shoes. Jogging regularly can add 5.6 years to a woman’s life, say Danish researchers. Data from their 35-year study, released in May, showed people who ran at a slow to average pace of between one to 2.5 hours a week in total, reduced their risk of death by 44 per cent.
  2. Look on the bright side. Being optimistic can protect you against heart problems, say Harvard researchers. After reviewing 200 studies, they concluded that the most optimistic people had about a 50 per cent reduced risk of having an initial cardiovascular event compared to their less optimistic peers.
  3. Savour your espresso. Women who drink two or three cups of coffee a day may reduce their risk of death by 13 per cent, US experts found, after following 400,000 people over 13 years.
