Key warning signs that you're not using your scales in a positive way and it's time to ditch them for a while:

1. You are weighing-in once a day or even more regularly.
2. When you weigh yourself, the number you see has the power to instantly and/or dramatically change your mood.
3. You feel like you are having a 'love-hate relationship' with the scales (that is, you want to hug it one day, and throw it through the window the next).
4. You are fixated on a particular weight, and feel that achieving this goal is a requirement for your happiness.

Future trends: Numberless scales
There's a trend in the US for 'umberless'scales that measure kilos lost or gained, without ever showing you your weight. The first time you step on the scale, it measures your weight (without showing you) and from that point on it tracks your progress. See www.quantumscale.com

WiFi scales
The WiFi scale registers your weight, fat, lean mass and BMI and automatically uploads the information to your PC, laptop or iPhone. The programme displays your information in a graph. Visit www.wifiscale.com.au or www.expansys.co.nz
