Man becomes paralysed when he feels love

, Prev Next

A US man is struggling to cope with a condition that causes him to become paralysed whenever he feels affectionate.

Matt Frerking, 39, has narcolepsy with cataplexy, a rare disease that makes it impossible for him to enjoy a normal relationship with his wife.

In most sufferers, the paralysis is triggered by an emotional stimulus, such as laughter or boredom. For Mr Frerking, that trigger is love.

Whenever he feels affection towards his wife, stepchildren, or family, he falls into a sudden sleep attack that renders him unable to move.

During the attacks he can hear and feel anything going on around him, but he cannot move his muscles to react to the situation.

The trigger is so sensitive that Mr Frerking even falls into paralysis when he witnesses two strangers in love, ABC News US reports.

"I have to limit those things very carefully," he told the network.

Mr Frerking tries to stop the attacks by avoiding physical affection or moments of sentimentality.

His wife, Trish Frerking, keeps a blog about their life together, and said she still "feels lucky" to be with him. "I love him," the 51-year-old said.

"Frankly, he loves me or he wouldn't put himself through it. And I'm thankful I'm the person who gets to be with him most of the time."

But she admits that at times she wishes she could be closer to her husband.

"It's tough," she said. "I miss touching him ... I want to be touching him ... I miss making out."

Some of those comments obviously have no respect for any human being! This is just a regular guy with a horribly dibilitating illness. It must be torture for him to not be able to hug and kiss the woman he loves! And she must feel so helpless! Have a little compassion aye.
Could it be that Dimitri has been spurned by the girls he thinks are pretty, why he is so obviously down on N.Z. girls. How can you judge such a diverse range of females from the North to the South. Perhaps we should have a photo of you to pass our comments on, and could anyone be turned on by actually loving their partners for who they are Dimitri, not just what they look like. Sad guy.
Obviously don't know the difference between love and lust - think with your big brain, not your little one!
Yeah the guys in NZ are damn ugly too!!! If you decide to stay and live in NZ you have to make do with what is available
Pretty obvious the first three comments are by men and poor excuses for men at that. Can't tell the difference between love and lust! What losers!
Dimitri, you are obviously not an NZ-born citizen otherwise you would have more respect. If you don't like it, go back to where you came from! Keep your discriminatory comments to yourself.
Dimitri your an *** im a New Zealander, and i think im hot and so does my hubby, u must b *** ugly or meeting the wrong girls.
he should try taking some viagra before his girl comes round - then she can have a good time at least.
The guy should just move to New Zealand to get over his illness. The chicks are so ugly here there's absolutely no chance of him falling in love or dealing with any symptoms of attraction.
What happens when he sees a hottie walking down the street? Wonder if he just starts drooling then convulsing in a heap? Probably find it more embarrassing than getting a massive obvious erection.
